Life in a Wisconsin Wind Project
Turbine Noise Log April 15, 2012

5:05 AM. It is Sunday morning. Most people would be “sleeping in”. Not in the sleep deprivation wind factory by Invenergy. I was woke up at 11:45 which also included a head-ache. I don’t ever remember waking up during the night with a headache. I was woke up gain at 1:12, 2:14, 4:03, 4:46 AND 4:59. At 4:59 I could no long sleep and had a headache. My ears have been crackling or sounding like a poorly tuned in AM radio for about a week. From this I get very irritated or stressed by sounds like a potato chip bag being crunched, coughing and other similar daily sounds such as dishes hitting together or a newspaper rustling. Yes, I feel this from the constant bombarding of low frequency noise from the turbines placed too close to our house.

10:45 PM. Wind S, 18.2 rpms. calm. There is jet noise and thumping and pounding noise filling the air. I easily hear turbines 4, 73 and 74a.

6:00 AM Sleep was mixed last night. I wrote down 1:11, 2:05, 3:03, 4:07 and 5:05. There were more wake ups, but rather than make the effort to write I concentrated on getting back to sleep.

6:50. Wind S, 11:0 rpms. Not very much noise, yet certainly audible at 1560 feet from turbine 4.

8:50 PM. Wind S, 15.0 rpms. Loud motor noise intermixed with a jet flying over noise.

10:35 PM. I hear vibration or grinding noise IN the house.

Turbine Noise Log April 13, 2012

Last night was filled with sleep deprivation. I was woke by the turbine first at 11:55, then 1:11, 2:30, 4:25, and 5:05. There were more wake ups, but not written down. After 5:05 I could no longer sleep.

6:20 PM Wind SE, 18 rpms. Jet noise from turbine 4.

9:05 PM. Wind SE, 18. rpms. Close to jet noise.

10:30 PM I hear turbine 73 thumping and pounding from inside the house.

Turbine Noise Log April 12, 2012

6:00 AM. I slept better last night for most of the night being woke up about 3 times.

2:05 PM. Wind ?.Turbines are pointed in various directions. That is why the ?. One can not tell wind direction from the turbines because they are pointed a many directions. Wind calm. 9.3 rpms. This blade rotation speed is well under production speed. It would be a good speed for a TV commercial on wind energy. Isn’t that what we see on TV? Slow turning turbines in front of a beautiful grain field. Where are the fast turning turbines 1000 feet from a home?

2:20 PM. Wind NE? 6.2 rpms. This again is well below production speed.

2:55 PM. Wind NE, 6 rpms. We are paying for this none production blade motion.

9:45 PM Wind E. Jet noise. Very loud for a wind from the east.

Turbine Noise Log April 11, 2012

4:50 AM. Sleep was a little better last night only being woke up 3 or 4 times.

7:15 PM I was gone all day. When I was 15 miles west of home I could see the turbines were not turning. As I got out of the car I felt good. In other words there is a different feeling in the air when the turbines are stopped vs. when they are turning.

8:15 PM I walked out of the house and felt different (negative). Without looking or hearing I knew the turbines were turning. My body could feel it. I looked to turbine 4. Sure enough it and the others were indeed turning. I did have fairly strong chest pains earlier today.

Turbine Noise Log April 10, 2012

5:25 AM. It was a horrible night of sleep deprivation. I was woke up 8 to 10 times. If I don’t  write the time down I find my estimate of wake ups by the turbines are low. In other words I think I am woke up 3 or 4 times each night. When I actually write each wake up down I find I am woke up 8 to 10 times.

5:40 AM. Wind NW, 18.4 rpms. Turbine 4 noise is like a jet flying over. Turbine 3a is the same jet noise. It is unusual to pick 3a out from turbine 4 because they are so close to one another. I am extremely tired from last night’s sleep deprivation.

10:10 PM. Wind NW, 16.4 rpms. Loud mother hum to a jet noise from turbines 4 and 6.

Turbine Noise Log April 9, 2012

5:35 AM. Sleep was bad again last night. I was woke up about 6 times. I did not look at the clock.

5:00 PM. The wind was strong all day today which masked much of the turbine noise, however the nauseating affects from the turbines running were still present.

8:50 PM. Wind NW, 18.8 rpms. Jet noise from turbine 4 and turbine 6 is giving off a thumping and pounding noise. Turbine 4 is 1560 feet away and turbine 6 is 3300 feet away.

Turbine Noise Log April 8, 2012

5:50 AM. It is Easter Morning. I was woke up 4 or 5 time overnight. I am tired.

8:40 PM Wind W, 18.3 rpms. Turbine 4 noise is a jet noise. Turbine 6 is thumping and pounding.

Turbine Noise Log April 7, 2012

5:40 AM. There was lots of sleep deprivation last night despite fairly low wind speed. Often it is that way. The more calm the air and less ambient sound there is the more the ill affects of the turbines are felt. The times I wrote down are 1;22, 2:21, 3:12, 4:55 and 5:16. I could no longer sleep after 5:16. It is Saturday. Many people would “sleep in” on a Saturday, especially being Easter weekend. It is not possible in this Invenergy project. I feel exhausted and have a deep down inside headache.

Turbine Noise Log April 6, 2012

5:25 AM. I was woke up many time by the turbines. I wrote down 4 of them and tried to get   back to sleep with out looking at the clock the other times I was woke up. I wrote 12:05, 12:56, 4:03 and 5:09. After 5:09 I no longer could sleep.

9:10 AM. Wind E, 10.9 rpms. Just a whooshing noise.at this time
